Activities

The MWV Adult Day Center brings joy to its guests by helping them do the things they enjoy. It’s about personalized engagement with purpose, and helping build quality of life. The Center provides structured activities, art and music, and physical activity. Activities include:

Dancing

ADC - Philosophy of Care

We work with community organizations such as Jeannie Limmer Dance Studios to bring the joy of dance to our guests. We encourage dance and movement with our own vintage-style juke box offering a wide variety of popular music from decades past.

Gardening

Thanks to the support of the MWV Gardening Club, our guests can work with fellow gardening aficionados to create floral arrangements or tend to our outdoor gardens and planters. Our grounds feature a “dementia garden,” with plants and flowers that allow for reminiscence drawing on the power of sights and smells of beautiful and aromatic plantings.

Physical Activities

Physical activity is a known elevator of mood and key to avoiding deconditioning as we age. From yoga instruction, to chair exercises, exercise bikes, to walking outside in our large gated yard, physical activities are core to our daily schedule. Our facility even offers an indoor walking path marked with color cues to make it easier for those with dementia to navigate. We tailor activities to meet the needs of the individual’s physical condition so all may participate.

Music Therapy

Those who live with cognitive and physical challenges find renewed meaning and connection in their lives through music. Musical favorites tap deep memories not lost to dementia, enabling guests to feel like themselves again, to converse, socialize and stay present. From ukulele sing-alongs to holiday caroling to listening to favorite tunes on our jukebox, music is an integral part of our day.

Therapeutic Art

Art projects are a fun, relaxing way for people of all ages to express their creativity, but they’re particularly valuable for those with dementia. Art therapy stirs dormant memories and creates a sense of accomplishment and purpose. Studies have shown that art therapy activities even help boost cognitive function in various areas of the brain and enhance communication, brain function and social interaction. Our staff offers organized art activities every day ranging from painting, drawing and crafts.

The Game Room

Fun and play may not be the most structured activities, but they are some of our guests’ favorite ways to spend time at the Center. From shooting mini- basketballs to rolling Skee balls to shuffleboard and even a vintage pinball machine, our game room features activities where guests can enjoy the challenge and satisfaction of playing arcade style games and the thrill of a familiar pastime.
